The Story Behind the Self Portrait Print by Raphael
The Self Portrait print by Raphael was originally painted c. 1504 with Raphael depicting himself as a young man. He later created another self-portrait which was commissioned by Pope Julius II for the Vatican fresco focusing on the School of Athens. In the Self Portrait print by Raphael, he portrays himself in the classic fashion and style of the Renaissance period. This piece originated from Urbino which was Raphael's place of birth and it remained there until 1652. It now resides in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
