The Story Behind the Full Moon Over a Mountain Landscape Print
Japanese artist, Hiroshige, was a great ukiyo-e master in creating colour woodblock prints. The Full Moon Over Mountain Landscape print depicts a twilight moon being cast over the mountain. Many of Hiroshige’s prints had snow, rain, mist, and moonlight scenes with lush colours and an unconventional but effective approach to composition. Together with Hokusai, Hiroshige's popularity is unrivalled, with elegant and striking landscape works which inspired Vincent van Gogh. Hiroshige’s influence can be seen in Van Gogh's use of vibrant yellows and oranges alongside blues.
