The Story Behind The Holy Trinity Print by El Greco

Painted around 1577 to 1579, the Holy Trinity print is one of nine works that El Greco produced for the Abbey of Santo Domingo de Silos. The oil on canvas painting depicts God the Father holding the dead body of God the Son, while the Holy Spirit, represented by a white dove, hovers above. El Greco’s piece has been inspired by Michelangelo, whose work inspires the anatomy of the figures. The use of colour and light is similar to that of Tintoretto and the composition is inspired by Albrecht Dürer. The original work of this Holy Trinity print by El Greco now hangs in the Prado Museum in Madrid.
