The Story Behind the Portrait of a Man Print by Titian
Painted around 1510 by Titian, the quality of the Portrait of A Man with a Quilted Sleeve print has always been commended. One of Titian’s earliest works, the painting comes from a crucial period in the development of the Italian Renaissance portraits. The identity of the sitter has been much deliberated, from being Ludovico Ariosto, an Italian poet, a self-portrait of Titian, to in recent years the figure of Gerolamo Barbarigo, a member of an aristocratic Venetian family.
